The Texas Health Nurse Residency Program for LVNs is designed for newly graduated LVNs who will begin their practice in Acute Care (Med/Surg). The program provides a structured orientation that includes fundamental specialty classes, web-based training and clinical time on the unit with a preceptor.

LVN Residency Program Start Dates
Summer 2026 Cohort
Start date is July 13, 2026.
Open Positions are currently posted.
Fall 2026 Cohort
Start date is October 19, 2026.
Positions will be posted on May 21st, 2026.
Winter 2027 Cohort
Start date and open positions to be determined.

Requirements and Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited vocational nursing program
- Current LVN license to practice in Texas upon hire
- Current BLS/CPR Certification for Health Care Providers
- Fifteen-month work agreement (begins on the first day of the residency program)
- Application portfolio – documents you will upload to the Submit Supporting Documents section in the online application:
- Resume (please upload as an attachment)
- Unofficial Transcripts
- Essay (In one-to-two pages, tell the story of a clinical situation that was especially meaningful to you.)
Each new LVN in our Residency Program will be assigned a learning plan specifically developed by Clinical Learning that includes:
- Texas Health’s best practice education and current professional organization best practices
- electronic health record training
- specialty practice training with a minimum of 2 experienced preceptors and focused practice modules
- EKG training and resuscitation skills
- huddle sessions designed to foster skills in handing stress and conflict management, solve problems, develop effective self-care skills
- individualized clinical experiences and organizational development activities
All new LVNs in the program will complete a department LVN Initial Competency checklist and LVN Clinical Reasoning Expectations.
