Texas Health Denton is a 255-bed, full-service hospital providing convenient care to people across North Texas and Southern Oklahoma since 1987. With more than 1,100 employees and 450 physicians on our medical staff we’re one of Denton County’s largest employers. 

We specialize in Cancer Care, Neck & Back Program, Critical Care, Neonatology, CT Cardiac Imaging, Neurology, Electrophysiology, Orthopedics & Sports Medicine, Emergency Care, Robotic Surgery, Endovascular Surgery, Stroke Care, General Surgery, Weight Loss Surgery, Heart & Vascular Services, Women & Infants Care, Interventional Radiology and Wound Care & Hyperbaric Treatment. 

Texas Health Denton is a Joint Commission-accredited Primary (Level II) Stroke Center and Chest Pain Center, a Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence and a Magnet® designated hospital. 

Our four-story specialty center for women and infants features 12 labor and delivery beds, 2 C-section suites along with 6 antepartum and 24 postpartum beds. Texas Health Denton is the city’s only provider of obstetrical and neonatal intensive care services and is the largest provider of obstetrical services in Denton County. The ground floor houses a breast imaging center, outpatient physical therapy, cardiac rehabilitation and an internal medicine residency program. 

 

Job Duties  

Human Resource Management
*Functions in accordance with hospital policies
*Reinforces compliance of staff with hospital policies
*Gives informal/formal feedback regarding performance throughout the year
*Participates in selection and hiring of qualified staff
*Promotes retention initiatives
*Assists in career development of staff
*Promotes staff development
*Facilitates Professional Practice Model philosophy and employee participation
*Serves as a role model and mentor
*Inspires growth and development in staff, students and others
*Maintains open active communication among all staff within the department and with customers of the department
*Assists staff in developing effective communication skills

Customer and Interdepartmental Relations
*Actively promotes satisfaction targets related to: Patients, Employees and Physicians
*Provides rewards & recognition for accomplishments of staff
*Uses effective interpersonal skills to address staff or physician concerns
*Promptly attempts to resolve complaints/concerns
*Fosters interdisciplinary environment to promote optimal outcomes
*Supports/participates in hospital initiatives in the community
*Actively participates in and leads interdisciplinary teams
*Helps support and develop Unit Based Professional Practice Model council


OR Functions
*Run Bowie test on all sterilizers at the beginning of each day
*Load and return instrument cart to OR with any trays sent down at night
*Replenish as needed specialty instrument trays for other areas (Cath Lab Pacemakers Trays and Permacath Trays, other areas such as Chest Tube Insertion, Nose Fracture, Nosebleed, Nasal Packing, house-wide crash cart trays and intubation)
*Clean, decontaminate and sterilize specialty trays for Wound Care Center
*Order supplies, replacement instruments
*Maintain accurate sterilization records and report monthly totals to QA
*Pick up instrument carts, sterilize and return all trays to OR, L&D, and Cath Lab
*Process rental invoices for payment after verification


Clinical Operations
*Actively participates in the PI process
*Independently able to problem solve and meet changing needs of staff, physicians and new technology/procedures
*Facilitates the provision of safe, competent processing of equipment and supplies
*Clarifies and encourages staff compliance with hospital clinical policies
*Facilitates compliance with regulatory and accreditation agencies
*Provides legal/ethical guidance for department
*Supports the use of PI tools to appropriately address clinical or quality issues/concerns
*Facilitates the provision of safe processing for supplies and equipment used on patients of all age populations served in the OR, OB, NICU and throughout the facility.


Leadership/Professional Development
*Serves as a leader to staff in problem solving, decision making and planning activities
*Completes or assists with performance evaluations and submits to Human Resources on time
*Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs
*Demonstrates accountability and responsibility by independently completing projects/assignments on time
*Serves as chair/member for committees, teams and task forces as requested
*Provides continuing education regarding TJC and other agency guidelines/standards


Education
H.S. Diploma or equivalent required
Bachelor’s Degree preferred

Experience
3 years clinical experience in a sterile processing department including some supervisory or leadership functions required

Licenses and Certifications (Either of the certifications listed below are required upon hire)
CRCST – Certified Registered Central Service Technician
CSPDT – Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician
CBSPD – Certification Board for Sterile Processing & Distribution

Skills
Understanding and knowledge of instrument sterilization/reprocessing, storage and AAMI standards
