Natalie Whitworth is putting her years of nursing experience to work

What did you want to be as a kid, and how did you ultimately choose your career?

I wanted to be the first woman President of the United States. Growing up, I didn’t know anyone who worked in health care and never had a sick family member. Nursing was a second career for me after spending a short time fresh out of college as a commercial real estate appraiser. My desire to go to nursing school was driven by an exceptional experience I received after having a complicated first pregnancy. I was in awe of the nurses’ knowledge and skill. So I decided that I wanted to be a part of that profession.

What is your favorite Texas Health memory?

I was fortunate to be part of the leadership team that opened Texas Health Alliance. On day 1 of new employee orientation, with hundreds of employees both from across Texas Health and new to the organization, we did the Wobble dance. I knew then it was going to be a fun journey.

What do you like most about your job?

I enjoy working directly with front-line care team members to design reliable care processes. My role is to facilitate the team to completion of the design phase of the project. It is rewarding to see the creative solutions that come from these high-performing teams.

How is your department is working to meet KPIs?

The Reliable Care BlueprintingTM (RCB) team has been visiting every entity this year to provide direct support to help with the RCB adoption KPI. We have helped provide education and spread best practices, and even addressed and removed some care team pain points based on feedback received during these visits. It’s been a rewarding journey and we’re seeing the impact as the RCB KPI measures have been rising steadily across the system.

What is something about you that would surprise people?

I am a fitness junkie. I teach seven group fitness classes a week, which include hip hop dance fitness and boot camp formats. I also recently completed instructor training for a weight lifting format. When I’m not at work, you can find me at the gym.
