What’s your why?
Reminding ourselves of the meaning, or “why,” behind our work can help us build resilience and beat burnout. Consider your “why” as you read through comments from Texas Health Resources team members on why they keep going.

“A big why of my work is the bonds and relationships formed with people. I look forward to work every day, because I enjoy working with the people in my department, but I also enjoy the interactions and engagements with others throughout the entity. A smile and a kind word go a long way. Another why is a sense of purpose. Working in supply chain is challenging right now, but it is very rewarding searching and scouring vendors to get the units the items they need in order to function. We are the wheels on the bus; we must keep rolling if the bus is going to move. I keep going because I feel what I do makes a difference and supports a purpose for the folks in materials and especially those in the units counting on supplies.”

“I love interacting with patients, and I love the hustle and bustle of the Emergency Department. It keeps me on my toes! Every day brings new and unique challenges that my team and I can learn from. As a manager, my ultimate goal is to create a space for my team to thrive in. I believe when they succeed, I succeed. The way I see it is that I work for them versus they work for me. When I see my team improving, developing and growing, I feel proud and accomplished. If I can help at least one person during the day, whether it’s a patient, their family member or my staff, that is enough motivation for me to continue on.”

“Working in healthcare has always been rewarding to me. Being a patient advocate and helping to expedite care brings meaning to my workdays. In addition, finding ways to improve the workplace for my team further drives me every day. When I’m off, being with my family helps me to rejuvenate and also reminds me how important it is to enjoy our work and set a positive standard for our children to follow. I’m extremely grateful to work for such a supportive company surrounded by a great team.”

“I got into nursing at a very young age with every intention to improve the lives of others and care for others like I would want to be cared for. I continue to show up every day with the hope that I can make a difference. The past couple of years have defined us all in the medical profession. This is more than a job for me; this is what I was born to do.”
