The accolades keep coming for Texas Health Southwest.
On the heels of being ranked No. 4 in the Dallas-Fort Worth area and No. 13 in Texas by U.S. News & World Report, the hospital recently received the 2018 Press Ganey Pinnacle of Excellence® Award.
“This does not surprise me,” said Becky Tucker, newly appointed president of Texas Health Southwest. “It is evident that Texas Health Southwest has excelled at focusing on the consumer experience while delivering quality care.”
The hospital has adopted numerous measures to enhance the patient experience:
- Unit leaders try to address patient concerns before discharge, and they follow up with patients who express concerns after they’ve been discharged.
- Front-line employees are encouraged to communicate with patients as much as possible, explaining what they’re doing when completing a task; involving patients and their families in the bedside report; talking to patients about pain management; and providing medication education.
- During rounding, patients are asked what they’re most looking forward to after their recovery. Those answers are shared with the unit, so others can talk about it with the patient, as well.
- Senior leaders regularly visit units to observe the use of practices and scripting that have been shown to positively affect the patient experience.
The award, which will be officially announced in November, is given to hospitals that maintain consistently high levels of excellence over three years for patient experience. Recipients will be recognized at the Press Ganey national conference in November.
