Texas Health Southwest Named
Level III Trauma Facility

Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Southwest Fort Worth has been designated a Level III Trauma facility. The designation from the Texas Department of State Health is awarded to facilities that provide 24-hour and immediate assessment, resuscitation, surgery, intensive care and stabilization of injured patients.

“We’re all really excited to achieve this,” said Gary Wallace, M.H.A., R.N., NEA-BC, CCRN-A, director, Emergency Services and Nursing Operations, Quality & Outcomes. “We’ve been working on it for about three years, addressing any gaps we needed to before submitting our application.”

The Level III designation enables Texas Health Southwest to better help patients who come directly to the emergency room after a trauma and also to care for more patients from local emergency medical services.

“As a Level III facility, we have more resources to better care for our patients,” said Dustin Burk, M.H.A., B.S.N., R.N., trauma program manager at the hospital.

Though the designation is gratifying, it came as no surprise to Becky Tucker, hospital president.

“I’m so proud of not only our Emergency Department but the whole hospital because everyone played a part in this advancement,” Tucker said. “This is just one more way we’re fulfilling Texas Health’s Mission to improve the health of the people in the communities we serve.”
