Taking pride in the next generation of nurses

Uncle-niece pair love their co-workers at Texas Health Cleburne

After four years as a paramedic and three as a nurse in the Emergency Department, Shaun Pinyan, R.N., said his favorite part about working at Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Cleburne is his co-workers.

He’s pretty proud of one of them, in particular. His niece, Audrey Pinyan, started in February as a resident nurse at the hospital after serving as an extern in the Emergency Department for a year and a half and graduating from Texas Christian University.

Shaun, who mostly grew up in Johnson County, has been in healthcare for almost 16 years in all. He said he chose the career “because I have a passion to help people in their greatest time of need.”

“I’m excited to work alongside Audrey and to watch her learn and grow in the same profession,” he said. “I, and my wife, who has been a nurse for 20 years, take pride in seeing the next generation of nurses come along.”

Audrey added, “Working with a loved one is such a privilege. It’s a great opportunity to learn and creates such a supportive environment.” She added that she chose a healthcare career because she has always wanted to help people.

“If I can help others through life’s toughest moments, it makes it all worthwhile.”

Vicki Currin, B.S.N., R.N., CEN, nurse manager at Texas Health Cleburne, said, “I am excited to have Audrey starting her career here, and I know she’ll flourish in our Emergency Department, especially with Shaun and the rest of our team at her side.”

Like her uncle, Audrey said her co-workers are her favorite part of working at Texas Health Cleburne. “I am surrounded by very supportive people who make it easy to have great teamwork,” she said.

Carla Dawson, chief people officer, said, “Texas Health as a system is proud of fostering a culture where generations of the same family feel they can do their life’s best work here.”

That’s especially true at Texas Health Cleburne, President Christopher Leu said: “The culture here is a truly special one. We celebrate our family-like atmosphere and are endlessly thankful for the families in our Texas Health community that join us to care for those within the community we serve. Thank you, Audrey and Shaun, for being a valued part of it all!”
