Get to know Ramesh Kothuri

Ramesh Kothuri likely won’t ever see a patient in his work.

But as director, Human Resources Information Systems, he’s making a big difference integrating systems and processes that support Human Resources in hiring and onboarding, performance management, learning and development, payroll and benefits. He’s deeply involved with the ERP project, which involves improving the business processes and technology to modernize Texas Health’s financial and supply chain management systems.

What is a typical workday like for you?

My workday includes coordination with multiple teams on multiple projects that include implementation and enhancements to existing functionality covering HRIS areas, including Payroll, Benefits, Core HR, Time and Labor, ePerformance, Recruiting and the Learning Management System (MyTalent). More recently, it also includes the implementation of the new ERP systems for the Financials and Supply Chain Management modules as part of the Business Transformation office.

I have a strong background in project management and technology combined with experience working on Human Resources and Financial and Supply Chain modules that I leverage on a day-to-day basis to build highly integrated and user-friendly systems.

What is the biggest challenge of your work?

The biggest challenge is breaking silos and building secure and integrated systems. Teams are working to achieve their goals in silos. I take a step back and look at the bigger picture and see how we can integrate the independent systems and achieve a seamless experience for the end users by building secure integrations between the systems.

An additional challenge is to apply the best practices and techniques from data science to the available HRIS data from the Recruiting, HR, Payroll and Compensation systems, and help improve internal metrics such as time to fill, cost per hire and quality of hire, and measure and report the organization KPI of Retention rates. Some of the data analysis techniques allow us to slice and dice the Retention rate KPI on various dimensions, including entities, departments, and job codes.

How does your role and work support our KPIs?

We are rolling out our new Recruiting system Oracle Talent Acquisition cloud, which is the flagship Recruiting system provided by Oracle. This is a highly integrated system that allows us to reduce the time to fill and screen candidates with our background check vendor with a quick turnaround time. This new system is expected to not only reduce the cost per hire but also improve the overall quality of hire. Quality hires are at the center of any organization. This will contribute towards improving all of our KPIs in the areas of Consumer Focus, Exceptional Care, Culture of Excellence, Transformative Growth and Value Creation.

Additionally, the new-generation integrated ERP systems that we are building will improve the productivity of all the employees working in the Human Capital Management, Finance and Supply Chain Management systems, and contribute to the overall improvement of the organizational KPIs.

What do you like to do when you’re not at work?

I like to spend time with my family and friends. I love to spend quality time with my children, ages 4 and 8. We play basketball together and go biking on long trails. I also like to play tennis and ping pong to keep myself active.

I like to get involved in volunteer programs at my local church and my kids’ school PTA. I enjoy finding opportunities to mentor children and guide them to complete their education and choose the right career path that fits their interest and meets their goals.

What is something about you that would surprise people?

I went through a life-changing experience almost 15 years ago, when I was in a car wreck as a passenger. That took a heavy toll on me physically, mentally and financially. I am thankful to the medical community for healing me with multiple surgeries. I am thankful to God for giving me a second chance at life. Some people are surprised when I tell them about this ordeal and that I am still able to walk and move around as a normal person. This experience has allowed me to see the operating and recovery procedures closely as a patient. Now as part of Texas Health I contribute to improving the business processes to provide a better overall experience for our patients.
