Renea Kelley, radiology professional, Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Kaufman, shares a time she saw Our Texas Health Promise: Individuals Caring For Individuals, Together, in action.
I have worked for Texas Health Kaufman for 20 years. This is the only place I have ever worked that felt like home. I was born and raised in Kaufman, so the people who come through our doors are “my people.”
One story that stands out in my mind as Our Texas Health Promise in action involved a patient with challenging conditions at home. We had a paramedic who would travel to the homes of patients who had been discharged to make sure they had everything they needed to get better and hopefully avoid being readmitted.

The paramedic saw that this patient was living in conditions that were not favorable for health improvement. When it was brought to the attention of hospital leadership, several of us got together on a Saturday and went to the patient’s home. We spent the entire day cleaning, visiting, going to buy food, getting medication and making sure the home and surroundings were a safe place for the patient to recover.
We left with such a sense of pride in our hospital and each other. I can’t tell you how hard we worked, but it didn’t really seem like hard work at all. This patient and their family were blessed by the employees at Texas Health Kaufman, and I am so proud of my “family” here.
