Greg Franklin, B.S.N., R.N., LP, began as a paramedic technician in the Emergency Department at Texas Health Cleburne. He then moved to the Texas Health Kaufman Emergency Department where, in 2012, he decided to pursue his nursing degree and has recently taken on the role of charge nurse.
Now through his involvement with the Nursing Career Advancement Program (NCAP), Greg has discovered a passion for education and creating a safe work environment for employees in high-risk areas.
“I’ve been a part of the program for three years and am currently at a Level III,” he said. “I now have a better understanding of all the behind the scenes work that goes into making sure our team works together and provides patients with the best care possible.”
Because the program encourages nurses to participate in a variety of professional development activities, Greg had the opportunity to become an instructor for Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training. For the past three years, he’s provided Texas Health Kaufman employees with the skills they need to safely respond to various levels of risk while balancing the responsibilities of patient care.
Greg’s involvement with NCAP doesn’t stop there. Beyond the walls of the hospital, he offers his medical assistance to several community events including one that’s particularly close to his heart.
Each year, he gives his time and medical skills to the Cure Ataxia bike ride in Denton. From handing out snacks to treating injured riders at the event, Greg’s hope is that a cure can be found for a close friend’s child who suffers from the degenerative disease.
With a passion for helping others both inside and outside the hospital, he also offers continued support to his co-workers with their NCAP portfolios and never hesitates to encourage others to become a part of the program.
“This is an excellent opportunity for advancement, and it’s helped me to become better involved in different aspects of the system and in my community,” he said.
