Keep It Civil

Diversity Action Teams Honor Civility, Humanitarianism

Sometimes in emergency situations, or just in the crush of work, civility can go out the window.

But not if Texas Health’s Diversity Action teams can help it. For the month of August, the teams are honoring National Civility Month and World Humanitarian Day.

While the dictionary definition of “civility” mentions politeness and courtesy, Texas Health is urging employees to expand on these principles, said Andrea LaFreniere, employee relations specialist, Strategic Employee Relations. The campaign was created to “encourage the importance of practicing kindness, dignity, respect, appreciation, selflessness and courage by promoting civility and helping others.”

Sounds a lot like Our Texas Health Promise: Individuals Caring For Individuals, Together.

The Texas Health DAT activities include making civility trees with sticky-note “leaves” on which employees write acts of kindness they’ve received. The DAT teams have also created specially designed Applause ecards and encourage employees to use Applause to demonstrate kindness and gratitude by recognizing the contributions and efforts of others.
