Position Summary
The Director of Security for a Hospital Region reports directly to the VP of Police and Security Services and provides the strategic leadership to effectively direct and manage the Texas Health Security Program for hospitals located within the region. Incumbent has an indirect reporting relationship and a close business collaboration with the leadership of the regional hospital being supported.
Responsible for the team that is expected to establish a robust hospital security posture while simultaneously creating a welcoming and safe healing and working environment for Texas Health’s patients, visitors, and staff. Incumbent provides direct supervision and leadership for the Entity Security Managers assigned within the region and indirect supervision and leadership to a team of police and uniformed security officers supporting the hospitals while working closely and collaboratively with the Texas Health Chief of Police who directly supervises those officers. Incumbent also closely collaborates with all the director-level leaders in the Police and Security organization, including: the Security Director Systems and Technology, the Security Programs Director, and the Security Director responsible for the THPG clinics, Breeze urgent care locations, and healthcare delivery within the community and at patient homes, to ensure the appropriate security systems and technology, assets, and resources are applied within their respective security programs establishing a robust security posture while simultaneously creating a welcoming and safe healing and working environment for Texas Health’s patients, visitors, and staff.
Develops effective senior level working relationships with key hospital and corporate leaders. Jointly establishes organizational performance indicators and expectations. Intervenes appropriately when conditions pose an immediate threat to life, health, or property.
Develops and implements policies and programs that reduce security risks and create a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, and staff. Incumbent develops and maintains a service-based culture among departmental staff and contractors that support the organization’s operations, with the goal of the Police and Security Team serving as Texas Health’s “Ambassadors” and becoming a differentiator for the organization.
Job Qualifications
Plans and directs the Security Program and the activities of staff and contracted resources at a Hospital Region in alignment with the organization-wide vision set by executive leadership. Develops, implements, and manages the strategic and tactical planning for the location’s security services. Ensures alignment of security services with the business objectives of the hospitals supported. Ensures all security service delivery and actions comply with legal and regulatory requirements. Represents security on relevant Threat Assessment Teams, committees, and working groups.
Works collaboratively with the Texas Health Chief of Police to ensure uniformed police and security officers supporting the hospitals in the region perform effectively, are properly deployed, and meet the needs of the hospital constituents. In coordination with the Chief of Police, develops business plans for and maintains public relations with municipal authorities, local public safety departments, high-level law enforcement, and intelligence and private sector counterparts. Works with the Chief of Police to direct the relationships with on-site law enforcement officers, contracted off-duty law enforcement officers, and patient monitoring officers. Coordinates any on-site activity of the Secret Service, FBI, and other federal agencies as needed. Briefs senior leadership on the status of security issues.
Develops and implements policies, procedures, standards, training, and methods for identifying and protecting the following from unauthorized disclosure, misuse, theft, assault, vandalism, tampering, sabotage, or loss:
Intellectual property.
Assets.
Personnel.
Property.
Facilities.
Operations or material.
Develops and manages business critical projects and programs with significant financial, reputational and/or legal impact. Develops and documents standards for measuring efficiency and effectiveness of security operations. Plans, develops, and implements procedures to obtain, maintain, secure, analyze, account for, and provide information from assessment reports. Manages complex security improvement projects across business units.
Manages the activities and provides leadership direction to the professional, technical and support staff within the group. In collaboration with HR, directs, leads, and coordinates security investigations, including, but not limited to, employee behaviors/actions, public safety, and drug theft. Appropriately informs the VP Police and Security Services of the status of security investigations and effectively collaborates with Legal, Compliance, and the Texas Health Chief of Police as necessary. Conducts risk assessments and ensures ongoing monitoring of community activity.
Education
H.S. Diploma or Equivalent Required
And
Bachelor’s Degree Business Administration, Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, Security, or relevant field 4 Years Relevant work experience in lieu of a degree Required
Experience
8 Years to include 5 years of progressive leadership experience and 3 years of Healthcare Security and/or Corporate Security experience with a Bachelors degree Required
or
12 Years to include 5 years of progressive leadership experience and 3 years of Healthcare Security and/or Corporate Security experience without a Bachelors degree Required
Managerial Experience Strongly Preferred
Healthcare Security Experience is a Plus
Licenses and Certifications
DL – Drivers License Upon Hire Required
And
CHSS – Certified Healthcare Security Supervisor IAHSS with in 18 Months of hire Preferred
And
Other ASIS – Certified Protection Professional with in 18 Months of hire Preferred
Skills
