Unit Secretary – Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

Work location: Texas Health Plano, 6200 West Parker Road, Plano, TX 75093.

Work Hours: PRN/As needed, Night shifts (7:00pm – 7:00am)

Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Highlights

  • The professional Unit Secretary exhibits understanding of basic human needs
  • Fast-paced environment that requires coordinating and performing the front desk duties which includes, but are not limited to, admitting newborn babies into the Care Connect system, cleaning infant beds, equipment, stocking, laundering specialty linen and requires standing and/or sitting for long periods of time during the shift.

Here’s What You Need

  • H.S. Diploma or Equivalent required.
  • Must comply with CLIA regulations regarding foreign education equivalency required.
  • Unit Secretary experience in an acute care hospital setting preferred.
  • Knowledge of general office equipment, PC’s and associated software packages preferred.
  • General knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
  • Possesses organizational skills to function in a fast-paced work environment, positive interpersonal skills, and good verbal and written communication skills.

 

What You Will Do

ORGANIZATIONAL/TECHNICAL SKILLS:

  • Performs all tasks to meet the needs of physicians, staff, patient, and other customers.
  • Demonstrates acceptable organizational skills.
  • Communicates effectively.
  • Interactions include consideration for patient population specific needs.
  • Takes action to reduce/eliminate patient risks.

PARTNERSHIP:

  • Uses Professional Practice Model philosophy to work in partnership with patients, families, physicians, peers, and all other disciplines.
  • Demonstrates adaptability and flexibility to changes in schedule and/or workload assignment necessary to meet changing needs of the individual patient or unit.
  • Makes new team members feel welcome and offers assistance with orientation of new employees.
  • Acceptable use of interpersonal relationship skills and communication with patients, families, co-workers, physicians, all disciplines, and other customers.
  • Organizes workload and effectively collaborates with nursing to prioritize care.
