PRN/As needed: up to 36 hours per week

Variable Day Shifts – 7:00am to 7:00pm; weekdays

Must be available to attend the 7-week summer program starting June 1, 2026, through July 24, 2026. If selected to participate in the THD Internship Program 2026, attendance is mandatory.

The remaining 6-weeks (3- two-week rotations) will be spent shadowing a RN preceptor. Interns will rotate through a variety of patient units with the opportunity to choose two rotations in Specialty Areas such as Critical Care, Emergency Department, and Women and Infants.

This is a paid, 7-week Internship that focuses on the Intern learning the role of the RN in an acute care setting. This program brings together students and preceptors in a unique, one-on-one clinical partnership where mentor relationships strengthen the students’ awareness of nursing scope of practice and critical thinking skills. Students in this program receive a mix of on-unit and off-unit learning to develop their communication and interpersonal skills and assist with procedures and treatments.
Here’s What You Need

High School Diploma or equivalent required.

BSN candidates preferred

Certified Nurse’s Aide (C.N.A.) certification upon hire required, or,
-
PCT Training Program, upon hire required or
-
Junior I or higher-level Professional Nursing student with proof of completion on nursing fundamentals. upon hire required and
-
Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) required prior to providing independent patient care and must be maintained quarterly.

Possesses organizational skills to function in a fast-paced work environment, positive interpersonal skills, and good verbal and written communication skills.
What You Will Do
Texas Health Dallas Nurse Extern are responsible for providing an excellent patient healthcare experience at each Texas Health site. Provide basic patient care under direction of nursing staff. Perform duties such as feed, bathe, dress, groom, or move patients, or change linens. May transfer or transport patients. Includes nursing care attendants, nursing aides, and nursing attendants.
Essential Functions
CARE OF PATIENT/TECHNICAL SKILLS:

Provides assistance to patient according to plan of care.

Collects patient data, identifies, and reports significant findings to nurse.

Assists in admission/transfer/discharge.

Provides and Revises patient activities of daily living based on patient/family preferences.

Performs technical procedures safely and proficiently.

Takes action to reduce or eliminate patient risk.

Enters orders into computer or manual system if applicable.
-
Documents accurately and appropriately.

In collaboration/consultation with the nurse, adapts care to reflect patient population.

In collaboration/consultation with nurse, incorporates cultural/religious needs and beliefs into delivery of care.

Keeps patient environment clean and maintains safe environment.
-
Anticipates patient/family and visitor needs and takes action to meet those needs and rounds as appropriate
