Summary
The Finance Lead for Ambulatory/Virtual Operations will report directly to the SVP Channel Financial Operations with a matrix reporting relationship to the Ambulatory Virtual Channel COO and will work closely with senior leaders for Urgent Care, Virtual Care Delivery, Texas Health Behavioral Health Video Visits, Executive and Concierge Health, the Addiction Recovery Center and all other components of the Ambulatory/Virtual Channel as it grows and evolves. The position will also provide finance leadership for ambulatory Pharmacy.
The incumbent will serve as the financial officer for each of these areas and routinely interfaces with members at the highest management level. The incumbent is a member of senior management team and participates in strategic planning operations, new business development, etc.
Job Duties
Serves as a resource for management, physicians and staff by providing accurate, timely and appropriate information to make financial decisions. Assures the accurate preparation of financial statements, including the adequacy of Bad Debt reserves, Managed Care discounts, accrued liabilities and Medicare/Medicaid liabilities.
Prepares the ambulatory/virtual channel annual operating budget and long-term financial plans. This includes the coordination of senior managements best estimates of profitability and capital equipment needs. Also responsible for developing pro forma analysis for both expanded and new capabilities in this dynamic area where often minimal market data is available.
Development, installation and operation of appropriate financial controls to assure assets are protected.
Serves as a member of the ambulatory/virtual channel senior management team. The incumbent may be asked from time to time to lead initiatives with THR. The ability to operate and lead effectively across all channels in many “dotted line” or matrixed relationships in which many functions are centralized is necessary.
Delegation and Level of Authority: The finance leader is responsible for review and approval of all financial policies and procedures affecting ambulatory/virtual channel as well as general oversight authority. The finance lead shares responsibility for ensuring the financial viability and in conjunction with other management staff promotes the delivery of high-quality care.
Leadership: This position is regularly involved in and must be committed to the development, teaching, advocacy and implementation of the THR Vision to a number of target groups including officers, employees, physicians, business community members and the public at large. The finance lead assists in efforts to see that the Vision is known, understood and incorporated in the actions of ambulatory/virtual channel operations staff through demonstration of positive leadership characteristics and in general “walking the talk” As a leader within THR, the incumbent will create an enabling environment, set the direction, inspire a shared vision, and communicate to achieve the Mission and the Vision.
The incumbent will serve as the entity lead for billing and collections issues that affect ambulatory/virtual channel and ambulatory pharmacy. These areas are still largely new to the market and THR and the finance lead will develop in depth knowledge of reimbursement trends and work with the THR CBO do develop policies that maximize reimbursement.
Education
Bachelor’s Degree Accounting, Finance or equivalent required
Master’s Degree MBA or MHA preferred
Experience
A minimum of 5 years of increasing responsibility in financial management and leadership, preferably in a healthcare setting required
Licenses and Certifications
Advanced HFMA certification preferred upon hire
CPA – Certified Public Accountant preferred upon hire
Skills
The finance lead needs to possess the skills and training to lead a diverse group of people.
The finance lead must understand the intricacies of complex organizational dynamics to effectively develop strategies for success.
The finance lead needs to understand how to develop and integrate systems and processes into an organization so the organization’s structure can operate smoothly and efficiently.
The finance lead needs to have a proven track record of success both working in and managing within a matrix structure.
The finance lead must have a thorough knowledge of financial accounting, cost accounting, generally accepted accounting principles and internal accounting controls as well as a general knowledge of financial analysis, planning and computer systems.
The finance lead must have the ability to prioritize, organize, delegate when appropriate and lead professionals as well as clerical staff to achieve outcomes in an expediate manner. Possess good oral and written communication skills.
The finance lead must have the knowledge of product pricing, provider reimbursement and financial requirements specific to healthcare.
The finance lead must have the ability to anticipate and model what changes in reimbursement will mean for the ambulatory/virtual and ambulatory pharmacy space.
The finance lead will have an understanding of technology and automation to support the channel and the organization.
