Job Qualifications
Human Resources:
Oversee the effectiveness of the department recruitment and retention program, taking action as necessary to provide an adequate level of qualified staff.
Promote professional growth, development and accountability in staff, students and colleagues.
Track and evaluate staff performance and individual development, holding staff accountable for achieving service expectations.
Coach and mentor subordinate staff in order to improve their performance and expand responsibilities.
Develop and support shared decision-making through the Unit Based Council model in order to develop inter/intradepartmental teamwork and team goal accomplishments.
Identify leadership talent and actively develops leadership skills.
Support diversity objectives of the organization in recruiting and promotion into leadership roles.
Participates in the orientation and training of staff.
Participates in disseminating department and employee survey evaluations.
Facilitate Joint Commission readiness.
Facilitates staff education through helping to identify needs.
Assists other THR entities with initiatives and serves as liaison with area respiratory schools.
Helps coordinates educational activities as they apply to the employee professional development.
Operations:
Plan, organize and delegate activities as required for the safe, efficient and effective operation of the department including active participation with other hospital and leadership staff to accomplish this objective.
Develop and oversee the implementation of policies, procedures, and standards that direct department operations.
As required for service, verify that standards are consistent with regulatory and accreditation standards and requirements.
Actively incorporate measures to obtain compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards and requirements.
Identify and utilize processes and resources that support optimal delivery of data and information to leadership team and staff.
Be a Clinical and administrative resource for respiratory therapy.
Evaluate, develop and implement initiatives generated through strategic planning.
Address clinical/procedural problems and patient complaints.
Evaluates and make decisions on equipment and other supplies.
Confirms appropriate staffing and flow of work.
Promotes research and assists with abstract writing.
Quality:
Use benchmark data from internal and external sources to identify opportunities for improvement of care and patient safety.
Identify key performance indicators that need to be monitored and evaluated.
Develop, monitor and evaluate systems that improve organizational performance.
Include department staff shared KPI goal setting, strategy development and outcomes analysis.
Implements an ongoing process to measure, assess and improve business and service outcomes based on standards of care, patient safety concepts, industry research findings and applicable benchmarks.
Include department staff in shared KPI goal setting, strategy development and outcome analysis.
Assign responsibility as indicated for corrective action in order to implement measures to improve operations and outcomes.
Initiate required actions to improve results with immediate attention as deemed appropriate and urgent for patient, department and hospital needs.
Financial/Budget:
Stewardship of the department resources by fostering a continuous improvement mindset. Drive high quality patient care in a cost efficient manner.
In collaboration with the department management and staff, determine the appropriate number and level of staff, balancing competency, patient needs, patient outcomes, patient safety outcomes and productivity guidelines.
Monthly review of the Departmental Responsibility Reports (DRRs) to determine adherence to operational performance targets.
Regularly communicate with staff and customer groups as appropriate regarding hospital/departmental goals, results and future direction. Advocate for appropriate fiscal and Human Resources to accomplish work / goals for the Department and the Organization.

Associate’s Degree AMA approved Respiratory Therapy program Required

Bachelor’s Degree Preferred

5 Years in Respiratory field Required

3 Years progressive leadership experience Required
People Leadership Experience Strongly Preferred
Licenses and Certifications
RCP – Respiratory Care Practitioner Upon Hire Required
And
RRT – Registered Respiratory Therapist Upon Hire Required
And
BCLS – Basic Cardiac Life Support prior to providing independent patient care and maintained quarterly Upon Hire Required
And
ACLS – Advanced Cardiac Life Support 90 Days Required
And
PALS – Pediatric Advanced Life Support 90 Days Required
And
NRPA-Advanced Neonatal Resuscitation Program Upon Hire Required
