THR Chief Nursing Executive

In a high-performing dyadic relationship with the Chief Medical Officer, the Chief Nursing Executive (CNE) is responsible and accountable for achieving and sustaining positive differentiation of consumer-focused clinical care across all care channels. This officer is expected to work in close collaboration, coordination and integration across the organization to advance Texas Health’s goals of providing reliable and affordable care. This includes championing nursing professional practice, activating nursing leadership, and aligning the Texas Health care model with nursing best practice and organizational goals. The direct reports to this position include the Senior Director Patient Safety; Dir Svc Line CL Outcomes; and the Senior Director System Clinical Excellence. Chief Nursing Officers within the hospital and virtual care channels have a dotted line reporting to the CNE.

The Chief Nursing Executive has the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Responsible and accountable for the successful deployment, execution and sustainability of system clinical strategies, tactics and action plans across all relevant service lines, and doing so in accordance with the specifications established by the system’s executive leadership.
  • Responsible and accountable for the ongoing design, deployment and refinement of the culture, processes and systems by which Texas Health will ensure provision of highly reliable, consistent and affordable clinical care of exceptional quality and safety in all channels and clinical products.
  • Responsible and accountable for development of standardized policies, pathways (including the development of Reliable Care Blueprinting modules), guidelines and clinical specifications that reduce unnecessary variation in the clinical delivery and/or costs of care to consumers in every relevant channel, including the use of change management strategies and tactics to ensure successful hard-wiring of system standards and specifications into clinical practice.
  • Responsible for collaborative design and development of new care models as well as redesigned and reimagined care delivery (collectively referred to as care model transformation) in all segments of the Texas Health enterprise.
  • Responsible for performance and accountability management of all direct reports based on annual operating plans that set forth clear and measurable goals, priorities, objectives and key results that are tightly aligned with system strategies, tactics, action plans, deliverables and specifications.
  • Lead system efforts as the executive champion for Nursing Congress and Nursing Executive Team toward implementation of Evidence-Based Nursing Practice (including literature reviews and benchmarking activities) to enhance the delivery of safe and effective patient care, as well as leading system Magnet Program and Pathways to Excellence strategy.
  • Responsible for the development and execution of nursing research strategy that accesses external funding mechanisms and elevates patient safety and quality within Texas Health and the broader healthcare industry.

  • Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing required.
  • MBA, MHA or Master’s degree in another health-related field preferred.
  • Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree preferred.
  • RN license in the state of Texas required upon hire.
  • A minimum of 10 years progressive nursing leadership experience (CNE, CNO or equivalent) required.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a complex health system and/or integrated delivery network required.
