What did you want to be as a kid and how did you ultimately choose your career/job?
When I was 6 years old, I decided I wanted to be a nurse, and I never changed my mind. I went straight to Texas Woman’s University from high school, and have enjoyed working in many different areas of nursing since then. I have worked in case management for 15 years.
What is a typical workday like?
There are no typical days in Care Transitions. Each patient brings with them unique and personal issues that we must take into account when providing the safest discharge plan.
What is the biggest challenge of your work?
Trying to help the uninsured and underinsured with follow up resources to prevent readmissions.
What do you like most about your job?
The people I work with. Because it is a small hospital, everybody knows each other by name, which creates an atmosphere of camaraderie and teamwork.
What do you do when you’re not at work?
I love to travel with my two sons, Justin and Jordan. We will be taking a cruise soon to Key West and the Bahamas. I’m also very involved with helping out my dad, who just turned 88.
