Tracking Down Community Benefit
Diane Henson, a clinical outcomes analyst at Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Fort Worth, spends her days tracking down Community Benefit contributions for the hospital. She even was named “Most Valued Reporter” for 2018 as the result of her work. Find out why below.
What did you want to be as a kid?
As a child I wanted to work at a bank. Although I don’t handle money in my career now, I am always dealing with numbers. I am a very curious person. I like to research and investigate, and I found out many years ago that I liked working with data. I am a sociology major so people and statistics are very interesting to me.
What’s a typical workday for you?
A typical workday is pulling data, building graphs, responding to requests, and searching for community benefit contributions. We count support groups, community collaborations, community screenings, health fairs, community education, charity care and much more.
What’s the biggest challenge of your job?
The biggest challenge is locating all the things Texas Health Fort Worth does to contribute to community benefit. I have to think outside the box and be very inquisitive.
What do you do when you’re not at work?
I help to care for my aging mother and aunt. I enjoy reading and spending time with family and friends.
How are you contributing to Vision 2026?
In 2018, I started collecting and reporting Community Benefit for Texas Health Fort Worth. I was able to report almost $10 million in staff contributions, an increase of 47% compared to 2017.
