Mary Anne Browne, R.N., helps patients feel seen and cared for, long before surgery day arrives.
With her warm reassurances and genuine compassion, Browne guides patients through each step of their joint replacement journey.
“She has a nurturing spirit with everyone she meets, and it also carries into work,” said Rona Ng’ethe, D.N.P., M.S.N., R.N., CNML, chief nursing officer at the Texas Health Center for Diagnostics & Surgery Plano.

For nearly two decades, Browne has worked as the joint replacement coordinator at the hospital. Beyond her role as a nurse, she advocates for patients who are preparing for a hip or knee replacement.
Browne explains, in her own words, what inspires her at work and what she enjoys outside the hospital.
How do you spend your days at work?
As the joint replacement coordinator, my days are centered around supporting patients, surgeons on the medical staff and other caregivers. I educate patients before surgery, answer their questions and help them feel prepared and confident. My goal is to empower each patient through their orthopedic experience, so they have better outcomes and overall care.
What’s your favorite part of your job?
My favorite part is being able to walk alongside each patient during an important time in their lives. They are entrusting us with their care. It’s incredibly rewarding to witness the difference joint replacement can make in someone’s quality of life, and to know it was not just myself but the entire team who played a role in that journey. It’s an honor and blessing to witness their progress.
What’s something people would be surprised to know about you?
I have a passion for bringing new life to old things. I enjoy remodeling and decorating. There’s something about tearing down a wall that brings me joy and exhilaration, because it represents transformation. Seeing a space take on new character and purpose reminds me of the importance of renewal, which is a value I also carry into my work with our joint replacement patients.
Do you have a favorite hobby?
My favorite hobby is following college and professional sports teams. I’m a big Texas Longhorns fan (Hook’ em Horns). I also love the Dallas Cowboys and cheering for the Dallas Stars. It keeps me energized and connected outside of work.
What motivates you to do your life’s best work at Texas Health?
It’s an honor to be trusted to care for patients, seeing them regain mobility, independence and confidence after their joint replacement surgery. I’m inspired by my faith, and the trust patients place in us and by the collaboration with our team members, who share the same commitment to excellence and compassion.
