What did you want to be as a kid, and how did you ultimately choose your career?
I was interested in how things worked and taking things apart. I also worked for my mom in her catering business in high school, so I was used to serving others. I chose engineering because of the opportunities and because I like to solve problems. Eventually I moved into information technology over the course of my career.
What is the biggest challenge of your work? Information technology is always changing.
We are constantly upgrading and making changes to support patients and staff with improvements. There is always something new coming. Our objective is to keep our customers happy.
What do you like most about your job?
I get to work with a great team of professionals in the IT department and at the hospital. Also, I enjoy the variety of duties. I’ve had the opportunity to work at seven hospitals as well as System Services in 11 years at Texas Health. This helps me know what ITS can do to support operations because I’ve been through many situations at a variety of entities throughout my career.
What new and different things are you doing to support our Consumer Focus?
ITS is supporting Consumer Focus with MyChart changes as part of the CareConnect One initiative. Patients can use MyChart to view their electronic health record, including test results, upcoming appointments and messages from their care providers.
How is your department working to meet KPIs?
ITS has KPIs to meet for resolving tickets and supporting hospital changes. We use a series of dashboards to watch tickets and then measure our performance.
