What do you enjoy most about working at Texas Health?
The culture and environment at Texas Health Dallas support and foster team spirit and team work. I love working with awesome colleagues and each interaction amongst peers is respectful. I have enjoyed the excellent educational opportunities and this has increased my professional growth and development.
How do you live Our Texas Health Promise SM?
I believe in treating others as I would like to be treated. Fostering an environment of being friendly, I consistently greet patients and staff with a warm friendly smile. Our Texas Health PromiseSM: Individuals Caring For Individuals, Together®, is a vital component of team nursing in the ED. Peer support and giving hugs for those stressful moments builds camaraderie and team spirit.
In your role, how do you help make care more convenient for North Texans?
Care is a multi-disciplinary approach. Engaging in practices such as AIDET (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, and Thank You), hourly rounding and striving for excellence in patient satisfaction allows each patient to feel as if they are the only one. An example is providing a providing a bedside commode for the elderly patient who cannot ambulate to the bathroom. This protects their dignity and maintains their self-respect.
How do you help enhance patients’ access to health care that is affordable, reliable and innovative?
The discharge process is important as this aligns the patient to community resources and gaining access to post-discharge care. As a direct care provider, I help the patient and families understand discharge instructions, including medications and their importance. Discharge teaching also includes our diverse patient population and utilizing the language services I know patients understand. I also provide handouts to various clinics to help the indigent population.
