The repeat neighborhood consumers and high standards make Texas Health Breeze Urgent Care a great place to work, said medical assistant Brenda Medina, a clinical concierge at the Addison location.
“We have a little one who comes in, he’s a fireball,” she said. “Little kids, that’s the best.” Residents at a nearby apartment complex come to the center regularly, she said.
Medina, who has worked at another urgent care system, said Texas Health makes the centers feel included. “We aren’t a stepchild. We’re actually part of the Texas Health family.”
Medina has put extra effort into organizing the clinic during slower times, said Deanna Williams, site manager.
“She is always going above and beyond to keep the center going strong daily,” Williams said. “She’s always coming up with ideas to help with daily processes. And very professional, always.”

Medina said she has organized tasks like stocking, ordering and cleaning to be done on specific days.
“That way we can make sure the clinic is up to the standards of Texas Health,” she said.
Medina shares more about herself in her own words:
What did you want to be as a kid, and how did you ultimately choose your career?
I always wanted to be in the medical field. I wanted to become a doctor. I was always into science and experiments. In both middle school and high school, I attended science magnet schools, and my love for science never died. God placed on my heart to become a psychiatrist, and I recently was accepted into Texas Womens University’s doctoral program!
What does a typical workday look like?
Honestly, the people you work with make the atmosphere. A typical day includes walk-ins, appointments and some drop-in drug screens. Here at urgent care, you never know what you will get — it never is a dull moment, that is for sure.
What’s your favorite part of your job, and what is the biggest challenge?
My favorite part is precepting. I love teaching and learning. I usually send a warm text greeting to my orientee, and they will express their nervousness. It feels good to be able to ease their minds once they train and realize it isn’t as hard as they thought. Seeing others succeed and grow is the best part of life, and if I can add to their professional growth, then my heart is happy! The other favorite part of my job is my co-workers! They make a busy and long day worth it. I believe the biggest challenge would be having to nasal swab a crying 2-year-old.
What’s something people would be surprised to know about you?
One thing that people would be surprised to know about me is that I want to travel in Japan for a couple of years. The cities that catch my attention the most are Tokyo and Kyoto. The temples and shrines are so mesmerizing. I love their culture and architecture. I cannot wait to go!
How do you do your life’s best work at Texas Health?
My path was set to help and heal patients. I do my life’s best work by loving on our patients and giving them the top-notch care that they each deserve. I take the time to make sure each patient feels as if they are at home. There was a head nurse whom I once worked with who told me, “You treat every patient as if they are your sister, mother, father and child.” That became my perspective on caring for patients.
