Nursing apprenticeships completed

Five Texas Health nurse residents have earned completion certificates from U.S. Department of Labor apprenticeships: Miranda Thurman, Tina Hutchinson, Ndeye Diack, Jair Camarena and Kassie Mix.

The apprentices attended classes and were paid to practice skills on the job at Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Fort Worth and Texas Harris Methodist Hospital Stephenville to earn their Department of Labor certificates as well continuing education credits. The apprenticeships provided experience as well as training and coaching to help the participants start their careers.

“In addition to these five nurses from our February 2020 residency cohort, we have had three more cohorts,” said Jennifer Bellamy, program manager, Academic Partnerships & Grants, THRU. “We have 89 enrolled and will have another group at the end of this month.”

Health Resources University added, “The completion— and the experience they’ve gained — will give them a head start on their careers.”

According to the Department of Labor, the apprentices will have a $300,000 lifetime earnings advantage over those who were not part of an apprenticeship program.
