Get to know Texas Health

Aileen Kho, M.S.N., R.N., joined Texas Health Plano as its new operating room manager earlier this year. She brings expertise and enthusiasm to her busy, fast-paced role.

Where did you grow up?
Manila, Philippines

What did you want to be as a kid?
A doctor like my dad

Where did you work before you came to Texas Health Plano?
My first job here in the U.S. was at Johns Hopkins Hospital. I was there for 13 years, then moved to Texas toward the end of 2017.

What is a typical workday like?
I start my day at the control desk to check staffing and mingle with staff. On Fridays, I join the team for the morning briefing. I usually spend at least an hour checking the rooms for improvement opportunities, and/or helping in the room as needed. The majority of my time is spent on meetings, CheckIns, local leadership meetings, learning our online systems, training, and reading and answering emails. For breaks, I like spending lunch time with the staff so I can know them in a casual environment. I also come in extra early on Fridays to meet with the night team and join their huddle.

What is the biggest challenge in your job?
Learning and getting access to the online systems. Data gathering (numbers/dashboards).

What hobbies, activities and pastimes do you enjoy outside of work?
I enjoy music and creative activities (painting, singing/karaoke, watching Broadway shows, etc.). I am not athletic at all!

What is your favorite food or restaurant?
I like variation, but I don’t like spicy food.

What is something unique about you that most people don’t know?
I don’t think I am necessarily unique. But I would like to believe that I am artistic and creative. This transfers over to my job as someone who is patient and someone who can think outside the box and generate new options/avenues to solve issues.
