Kambree Baxter, B.S.N., R.N., IBCLC, Texas Health Alliance, first learned about the Nursing Career Advancement Program (NCAP) during her Texas Health orientation. She knew from the start that she wanted to participate in the program.
“I have always loved learning, and I knew NCAP would help me set goals for getting involved in my profession,” said Kambree.
NCAP recognizes and financially rewards nurses for their dedication to their hospital, profession and education. Nurses advance levels in the program through a variety of professional development activities. A nurse for five years, Kambree has achieved her certification as a lactation consultant, participated in research and taught in-service education to help satisfy NCAP requirements and become a level V nurse.
Kambree, a maternal newborn nurse, has always loved taking care of people and knew from a young age that she would enjoy the challenge of nursing. She appreciates the relationships she develops with her patients.
“It is such an honor to be a part of what is usually one of the most special times of a couple’s life,” she said.
Kambree has taken her enthusiasm for NCAP and shared it with others as a program champion. In this role, she helps other nurses navigate the NCAP application and tailors the program to their interests.
“I enjoy helping other nurses reignite their purpose and passion for nursing,” said Kambree. “For anyone contemplating NCAP, I would encourage you to define your ‘why’ for participating. Once you can identify your ‘why,’ you’ll find the strength to finish.”
