Meet Morgan Lamb

Morgan Lamb

Speech-Language Pathologist
Texas Health Dallas

What did you want to be as a kid, and how did you ultimately choose your career?

From a pretty early age, I knew I wanted a job in which I could help people. As a child, these thoughts translated into thinking I wanted to be a teacher, because I knew teachers helped children. As I grew up, my horizons were broadened and I entertained the thoughts of other careers. However, I knew that no matter what I did, I wanted to help people in a situation/time of need. After college, my sister, who is an occupational therapist, encouraged me to shadow a speech-language pathologist (SLP) at Texas Health Dallas. It was after my volunteer work and shadowing experiences that I decided to go back to school and obtain my master’s degree and become an SLP. I feel incredibly blessed to be able to say that my story has truly come full circle, and I am now a full-time SLP in Inpatient Rehabilitation, where I first learned of and decided on my career.

What is your favorite Texas Health memory?
My favorite Texas Health memory is the day my sister delivered her first baby – my first nephew – in the Perot Building at Texas Health Dallas.

How do you incorporate our Vision 2026 pillar of Consumer Focus in your daily work?
I incorporate Consumer Focus daily by exhibiting a positive attitude with my patients and providing clear communication to keep the patient as informed as possible regarding their situation and motivated to work toward their rehab goals. I feel that approaching patients this way establishes the trust and supports them during their rehabilitation.

What do you like most about your job?
My favorite part of my job is that I get to support and encourage people in some of their most challenging times. I love that I am able to use my education, skill sets and interdisciplinary teamwork to increase my patients’ functional independence via therapeutic intervention. Helping individuals gain back swallowing, cognitive-linguistic, voice, speech and language skills is truly rewarding.

What is something about you that would surprise people?
I am 6 feet tall, but I am the shortest member of my family.
