Get to know Amy Hammond, R.N.

Surgery Manager
Texas Health Kaufman

What did you want to be as a kid, and how did you ultimately choose your career?
As a young child (age 12), I decided I wanted to be a nurse after helping care for my dying great-grandmother. I knew this was my calling, to be able to love and care for others. Letting the light of Jesus shine outward to others as I care for them brings great joy to my life.

What is the biggest challenge of your work?
I am challenged daily to be the best nurse I can be for each person I encounter. My hope is that the light shines through me as I work. My challenge becomes a great reward at the end of the day when my patients have been cared for wholeheartedly.

What do you like most about your job?
I love being able to serve others. I also like the team work and support from the people I work with, this makes each day much better.

How is your department contributing to Vision 2026?
It is our goal to take exceptional care of all patients that we come in contact with. It is important to that we work together as a team to give every patient the best experience possible. Also, we are working on cost efficiency and are excited to use the CheckIn program to promote good communication.

What do you do when you’re not at work?
When I am not at work I love spending time with my husband, Craig, and 2-year-old son, Gaston. We enjoy outdoor activities and just being together. We love our church and being leaders of a young-adult group out of our home.
