The Director Cardiopulmonary Rehab has the following duties and responsibilities:
Human Resources:
1) Participate in the development of qualifications for patient care providers and /or other staff as required.
2) Oversee the effectiveness of the department recruitment and retention program, taking action as necessary to provide an adequate level of qualified staff.
3) Promote professional growth, development and accountability in staff.
4) Coach and mentor subordinate staff in order to improve their performance and expand responsibilities.
5) Develop and support shared decision making through the Partnership Council model in order to developing inter/intradepartmental teamwork, and team goal accomplishments.
6) Recognize and reward individual and team accomplishments.
7) Identify leadership talent and actively develop leadership skills for future opportunities.
Fiscal Management:
1) Understand the operating and capital budgets for the department.
2) In collaboration with department leadership and staff, determine the appropriate number of level of staff, balancing competency with patient needs and/or department services required.
3) Manage the approved budget through frequent and regular monitoring, implementation of effective written action plans to address variances, and implementation and adjusting strategies as needed to meet budgetary expectations.
4) Evaluates and analyzes budget impacts and results, making suggestions for improvements.
5) Regularly communicate with staff and customer groups, as appropriate, regarding hospital/department goals, results and future direction.
Operations of Respiratory and Rehab:
1) Plan, organize, and delegate activities as required for the safe, efficient, and effective operation of the department including active participation with other hospital and leadership staff to accomplish this objective.
2) Develop and oversee policies, procedures, and standards that direct department operations.
3) As required for the service, verify that standards are consistent with hospital, community and nationally recognized standards and requirements.
4) Track and evaluate staff performance and individual development according to these standards, holding staff accountable for achieving service expectations.
Continuous Improvement:
1) Implements an ongoing process to measure, assess and improve business and service outcomes based on standards of care, patient safety concepts, industry research findings and applicable benchmarks.
2) Incorporate benchmark guideposts for continual evaluation of alternative methods of conducting business operations and/or care delivery.
3) Develop and monitor and evaluate department Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) reflecting the relationship with the System/Hospital KPI’s.
4) Include department staff in shared KPI goal setting, strategy development and outcome analysis.
5) Assign responsibility as indicated for corrective action in order to implement measures to improve operations and outcomes.
6) Initiates required actions to improve results with immediate attention as deemed appropriate and urgent for patient, department and hospital needs.
7) Engage staff in CI process and in issues/events as appropriate.
Customer Satisfaction:
1) Collaborate with all customer groups (patients, department/hospital staff, physicians and other internal/external customer groups, as appropriate for the department service) to understand prioritize customer expectations.
2) Incorporate customer expectations into functional activities of the department.
3) Actively engage customer groups on a regular basis to promote effective customer relationships and communication with prompt resolution of issues and expectations.
4) Incorporate finds in continuous improvement activities
Long Term Planning:
1) Establish priorities for department/program growth and enhancement based on identified needs, current dept outcomes, research findings, and/or industry trends.
2) Effectively address change management to achieve planned improvements.
3) Participates with leadership toward resolution of long standing issues or towards completion of projects.
4) Develop assignments from delegated components into acceptable dept procedures.
5) Translates plans and ideas into concrete procedural steps for use or implementation.
Basic Respiratory Therapy Clinical Skills Include: oxygen & aerosol therapy, bronchodilator therapy, volume therapy, airway care, trach care, breathing exercises, patient monitoring devices & techniques, SCI protocols, stop smoking counseling, peak flow, NIP & FVC monitoring

Education and/or Experience
· Bachelor’s Degree healthcare related field required
· Master’s Degree preferred
· 5 years clinical program development required
· 5 years progressive leadership experience required
Licenses and Certifications
RCP – Respiratory Care Practitioner required upon hire
RRT – Registered Respiratory Therapist required upon hire
