What do you enjoy most about working at Texas Health?
I have been working at Texas Health Dallas for a third of my life and hope to continue to work here for many more years. I obviously love caring for patients, which is what drove me to the career in Physical Therapy. I love directly being able to help strengthen them and empower their lives. But why do I stay at Texas Health Dallas to do this? Our culture and my team, which is my family outside of the home. We are all here for each other while we are alongside each other caring for others too.
How do you live Our Texas Health PromiseSM?
We are a team and work as a team to care for the patients by doing whatever it takes to make the patient experience the best possible. As an acute PT, I work closely with OTs, RNs, NPs, PAs, MDs, RTs, STs, housekeeping, engineering etc. to collaborate and advocate for that best patient experience. I love being at work, helping everyone who needs it. Patients sense this joy of living the promise.
In your role, how do you help make care more convenient for North Texans?
As an acute PT, we empower our patients to keep moving, maintaining as much functional independence as possible during their hospital stay so that they can reduce their length of stay. Additionally, we contribute to promoting continued wellness and health promotion outside of the hospital walls by referring patients to outpatient services that continue to promote optimum patient function.
How do you help enhance patients' access to health care that is affordable, reliable and innovative?
I developed the Walking to Wellness program that went systemwide in 2014 with the Let's Get Moving program. This enhances the patient experience by advocating and promoting patients' independent function during their hospital stay by collaborating with nursing to promote hallway ambulation three times per day and out of bed for meals three times per day. That maintains their wellness during hospitalization and enables patients to discharge more quickly and return home. In addition, we use RCB to help patients get the best reliable care across the system. All good things!
