Meet our Superheroes

Sabrina, RN CNOR

How long have you been with Texas Health?  17 years

What is your superpower?
My surgical “knowledge and experience”. I am your greatest advocate. You are safe in my care and I promise to take good care of your family.

What was the coolest case you have worked on?
It was our hospital’s turn for “trauma night”. I was called in at 2 a.m. for a man that had been stabbed in the abdomen during a fight. As the man was brought into the OR I realized that his “stab wound” ran all the way around his torso. As he was initially stabbed his reaction was to turn his body, causing the wound to be extended circumferentially. The “cool” part was that no major organ was penetrated. We had to prep and re-drape him three times in order to “close the wound”.

Why do you stay at Texas Health?
I have worked in five foreign countries and three states in the USA. I could never replicate what I have currently at Texas Health Plano. Texas Health financially supported my husband through nursing school and myself through an MBA. I am able to fully fund a retirement account knowing that Texas Health is a part of that contribution. I love being able to care for my neighbors and their children.

How has Texas Health helped you transform your career?
I actively participate in the Nursing Clinical Ladder system at my facility, and champion this professional development opportunity among my peers through membership on the NCAP Committee. I currently serve on two Advisory Boards at Collin College and was recognized as a DFW Great 100 Nurse in 2015 while working at Texas Health Plano.

Let’s talk Work Life balance.  How do you disconnect and what do you do for fun?
I volunteer two weeks a year in a Children’s Hospital in Botosani, Romania. Together with Medical Missions Foundation out of Kansas City I partner with others to offer surgery to “the least of these”. This gives me great joy!!!
