Come be a part of the expansion and continued growth at our exciting baby friendly designated facility, Texas Health Alliance, in the North Forth Worth area!

This newly created position is due to additional patient volumes and high breastfeeding rates.
Lactation support services covering both inpatient and outpatient areas as well as the 8-bed Level III Neonatal ICU/NICU


DEPARTMENT INFORMATION:

Women's Services earned Baby-Friendly Hospital and Texas Ten Step designations in 2017; added three labor rooms; and had a record number of births - 190 - in October 2017

Baby friendly designation
18 Mother/baby rooms (couplet care)
8 Labor & Delivery rooms
2 OR suites
8 bed Level III Neonatal ICU (NICU)
averaging over 160-170+ deliveries per month and growing
Skin to skin
Quiet time on unit
 
HOURS:

Full time: 36 hours/week, 9-hour shifts, variable/flexible with schedule to work both evenings and day shift hours; coverage on Thursday and Fri day evenings between 2:00PM-11:30PM; any other day of week would be day hours between 8:00AM -6:00PM, rotate weekends - every 3rd weekend and then rotate holiday coverage;(there are 2 other L.C.s in department)

Qualified candidates for the Lactation Consultant RN will possess the following:

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Associate's Degree in Nursing is minimum.
Bachelor or Science in Nursing (BSN) is preferred.
RNs hired after January 2017 require completion of BSN within 2 years of start date.

Required minimum experience:

One (1) year experience as a clinical nurse (RN), or completion of an RN residency program.

(Current RN experience as a Lactation Consultant)

Required license/certification:

Current RN licensure or compact licensure recognized by the Texas Board of Nursing upon hire;
Current American Heart Association (AHA) BCLS/CPR certification upon hire.

Credentials specific to specialty as defined:

NRP certification - need to obtain within 30 days of hire if not current

IBCLC certification within 12 months of hire if not current
(current IBCLC certification preferred)

Required skills (if applicable):

A high degree of confidentiality, positive interpersonal skills, and ability to function in a fast-paced environment.

* Critical thinking skills are necessary
* Proficient in maternal/newborn assessment and breastfeeding services

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is preferred.
(Must obtain BSN within 2 years from date of hire)
Flexibility with schedule
Recent experience in Women's Services or Lactation within the last 1-2 years.
* Basic computer skills/knowledge - Microsoft Word and Outlook; computerized charting on EPIC/Care Connect
* Excellent communication and customer service skills
