Texas Health Allen Hospital is currently hiring for a Nurse Manager I - Behavioral Health. The Nurse Manager provides the leadership and strategic planning of the nursing and clinical services of the Behavioral Health Unit. As a member of the Leadership Team, this position ensures the development, implementation and evaluation of policies, programs and services consistent with the facility's goals and objectives and actively participates in a leadership role by consulting facility management in designing and providing total patient care and services. Responsibilities include the overall administrative processes and management systems for all nursing/clinical services offered at the facility, promotion and maintenance of a therapeutic environment and development and implementation of clinical treatment programs. The Nurse Manager participates in the hospital's strategic planning and contributes to the achievement of institutional goals and objectives. Experience in implementation of Joint Commission, CMS, and State hospital standards and, in particular, the integration of psychiatric/rehabilitation nursing into these standards strongly preferred
Hours: M-F 8:00 am - 5:00 pm with a variable schedule according to volume and needs of the department
Required minimum education: BSN required with MSN preferred.
**** Psychiatric inpatient/outpatient experience is highly preferred ****
Required minimum experience: Five years experience as an RN with three years in increasingly responsible leadership position.
Required license/certification: Current Texas RN Licensure, American Heart Healthcare Provider BLS, CPI (within 30 days of hire), ACPI within 12 months of hire
Required skills: Practices within the regulations of the Texas Nurse Practice Act. Proactive problem solving; good interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills; basic computer skills; time management.
Prepares operating and capital budgets for areas of responsibility.
Manages approved operating and capital budgets effectively and adjusts strategies as needed to meet budget expectations.
Identifies and evaluates patient care requirements and outcomes based upon patient acuity, system and budgetary guidelines.
Budgets are completed on schedule, within parameters and with justifications submitted to Director
An action plan that addresses variances (positive and negative) is developed
Entered patient charges are monitored for accuracy and completeness
Nursing charting is monitored for completeness accurately supporting patient charges
Management reports are utilized to evaluate budget and staffing variations
Information is communicated from management budget reports to direct care providers
Adequate staffing is provided to meet patient needs
Daily staffing issues are resolved (seeking assistance from Director as needed) before leaving at the end of the day
Flexible scheduling is supported to meet the needs of patients and staff members
Employees are scheduled effectively to achieve productivity while remaining within budgeted hours per patient day and reducing overtime
There are proactive contingency plans for staffing during times of low census.
Meets patient care requirements and staffing needs.
Functions as a Retention Officer.
Completes personnel functions including staffing, performance reviews and corrective action
Promotes professional growth and development of employees.
Maintains a predicable schedule, including time on and off shifts such as weekends and holidays.
Maintains collegial relationships with staff, physicians, other departments and Administration.
Unit care delivery system is planned for maximum utilization of staff

NURSING PROCESS AND CARE
Works on assigned unit at least two 12 hrs shift in charge or delivering direct patient care within the appraisal year
Elements of the Nursing Process are performed using age specific guidelines in a timely, accurate, and complete manner with supportive documentation.
Departmental policies and procedural guidelines that are compliant with the requirements of each regulatory
agency are developed, implemented and maintained as current
Admission, transfer and dismissal activity is directed to attain best possible patient flow
Continuity of patient care inter-shift and inter-hospital is maintained; assuring that patient report includes bedside
rounds with both the oncoming and off going nurses
Out of hospital transfers are coordinated in a timely manner
Nursing care, the environment and unit equipment are assessed on an ongoing basis to ensure high standards of
care delivery, cleanliness and safety
Nursing documentation is reviewed and staff coached as indicated
Potential patient/family/physician problems are identified with interventions
Practice changes are successfully implemented

A minimum of one staff meeting per shift is held monthly
Minutes reflect safety issues are addressed each meeting and staff is encouraged to share information and
