*Completion of a Master’s Degree in a Speech Language Pathology program accredited by the American Speech-Language Hearing Association Council on Academic Accreditation
*Eligible for a Speech Language Pathology Intern license in the state of Texas – Intern license must be obtained prior to start date; or Texas Speech Language Pathology license
*CPR certification or certification within 60 days from hire date
*Good verbal and written communication skills in English
*Problem solving ability
*Ability to teach others
*Good interpersonal and customer service skills
1 year acute care hospital and Modified Barium Swallow experience preferred
Work Hours/Schedule: PRN (as needed);8am-5pm primarily weekdays, weekend rotation coverage
*Obtain/verify physician order for therapy and validate for appropriateness.
*Review available medical records and obtain pertinent medical history from patient or family. *Ensure that patient has given informed consent to treatment.
*Evaluate each patient using age and diagnosis appropriate assessment tests and measurements. Integrate assessment results to identify functional problems and prioritize care needs with patient and family.
*Sets appropriate measurable, functional goals with time frames to address the identified problems including patient/family goals and preferences. *Determine plan for care, or appropriate therapeutic intervention to achieve stated goals.
*Initiate therapy discharge planning in collaboration with care team and patient based on prognosis and expected discharge disposition.
*Demonstrates competence in the performance of age appropriate patient assessment and individualizes care based on age specific needs.
